French Guyana is the most Eastern of the three Guyana's (Guyana and Surinam are the other two. Besides Surinam it borders on Brazil.
French Guyana is actually not a country but very much a normal 'departement' of France. The only difference with other departements like 'Seine and Saone' or 'Pas de Calais' is that it is locaterd in the tropical rainforest of South America.
Most of the inhabitants of French citizens of French Guyana have a job as civil servant or are on welfare. Most of the other jobs are held by foreigners: Brazilians, Chinese, Surinamese.
Cayenne, the capital is a good place from where to explore things in the country. Kourou is the basis from where the European Union launches its space rockets. Devils island is a nice excursion, be sure not to miss the prison where Papillon was held captive.
